What to Expect From Our Frozen and Burst Pipe Restoration
When a pipe splits inside a wall, you’ll want to know how much of that wall we need to open. We point out where the line gave out before anything is cut, then open only the section at the break. The studs and subfloor nearby are dried and kept wherever drying can save them, and you’ll hear about anything too wet to keep before it comes out. We often return soaked carpet dried and deep cleaned rather than replacing it, and you can keep using the parts of your property the leak never touched.
We provide updates throughout the process, and if you’re filing a claim, we keep your adjuster informed as well. Once moisture readings show the wall is dry, we patch and paint it so you can use the room again. Best of all, it doesn’t matter if you’re in town or not. We take care of the damage and return the property to its pre-loss condition, so by the time you’re back, you’d hardly know there was a problem. That’s the Rocky Mountain experience.

Our Frozen and Burst Pipe Restoration Process
01 We help you shut off the water and send a crew
Call any time, and we’ll help you find and close the main shutoff if it’s safe to reach. A crew is usually there within the hour to confirm the supply is off and thaw any other frozen sections of pipe before they split too.
02 We find the break and extract the water
We trace the leak to the exact split, using moisture meters and thermal cameras to see how far the water ran inside the wall or ceiling, then pull the standing water out of the floors and any carpet it reached.
03 We open and dry the wall
We cut into the wall or ceiling only where the break is, then dry the framing, insulation, and subfloor around it. Anything too soaked to dry is replaced, and the wall stays open until our moisture readings confirm the cavity is dry.
04 We close the wall and finish the room
Once your adjuster has our documentation, our construction crew patches the wall, replaces the flooring or drywall that came out, and paints, so the room looks like nothing happened.

Call the moment you find out, day or night, and we’ll be there to extract the water and dry the space it reached.
Why Property Owners Call Rocky Mountain When a Pipe Bursts
A plumber can fix the pipe, but drying and repairing what the water reached is restoration work. Rocky Mountain Catastrophe & Restoration has been doing that work with the same local crew since 2008, based right here in Grand County instead of a drive up from the Front Range. When one bursts, we know where to look in a mountain home, dry walls in place instead of replacing them, send your adjuster the documentation the claim needs, have a crew on its way at any hour, and handle the whole job even when you’re away.

01 Crews who work through mountain winters
We handle hard freezes every winter in Grand County, so we know where pipes split in mountain homes, including exterior walls, crawl spaces, and the lines that feed radiant heat.
02 Walls dried in place
Our Reets-trained technicians use TES drying systems that can dry the framing and insulation behind drywall, so you’re not paying to replace materials that could have been dried.
03 Paperwork your adjuster can approve
We photograph the split line and water damage before anything is removed, then send the moisture readings and estimate to your adjuster so the claim isn’t held up waiting on proof.
04 Our crews are on the way day or night
Someone picks up 24/7, and a crew typically reaches you in about 60 minutes, so we shut off the water line before it soaks the floor below.
05 Job handled even if you’re out of town
If no one is staying at the property, we work with whoever has a key and send photos and video as we go, so you can follow the job without making the drive.

The Same Crew Since 2008, With a New Mountain on the Jacket
You might know us as RMCAT, from the diamond logo on our beanies or the tie-dye we wear to every community event. Our logo has changed, but our people, our local roots, and our fast response haven’t.
We take our work seriously, even if we don’t always take ourselves that seriously.

Grand County Frozen and Burst Pipe Restoration FAQs
Can you thaw a frozen pipe before it bursts?
Yes. We close the shutoff valve first, so a crack that opens as the ice melts can’t flood the room, then warm the line slowly and without an open flame, because heating it too fast can split it. If the pipe has already cracked, our extraction and drying equipment is on the truck, so the cleanup starts right away.
Why did my pipe only start leaking after it warmed up?
Because the ice was holding the water back. Pressure builds in the water trapped between the ice and a closed faucet, and the pipe often splits there, away from where it froze, so the leak only shows once things thaw. That’s why we check the whole run of pipe in that wall, not just the spot that got coldest.
How do you find where the pipe broke inside the wall?
With a thermal camera and moisture meters. The camera shows the cooler, wet area behind the drywall, and the meters confirm where the water is concentrated, which narrows down the break. That lets us open the wall right at the split instead of cutting exploratory holes.
How can a pipe freeze when the heat is on?
It happens more than you’d think. During a deep cold snap, pipes in exterior walls, crawl spaces, and cabinets on an outside wall can freeze even with the thermostat set normally, especially where cold air reaches the line. When one splits, our crew shuts off the water and dries everything the leak reached.
Can my property still be saved if a pipe leaked for days before anyone found it?
Usually, yes. Water that runs for days spreads farther into the floors and ceilings below, so more drywall, insulation, and flooring may need replacing, and mold can start in that time. Framing and subfloor can still often be dried in place, and we check for growth before anything is closed back up.
Does having a well change how you stop the water?
Yes. On a well, the pump keeps refilling the pressure tank and pushing water out of the break as long as it has power. So we shut the pump off at its breaker as well as closing the valve, then get the water out and start drying.
